Obituary of Michael Mychalo Mychajlo Prokopiw
Peacefully, at Strathroy Hospital on April 15th, 2023, Mike passed away suddenly at the age of 97 years.
Lovingly remembered by friends as “Little Mike”.
“Little Mike” was born in the Ukraine on November 14, 1925. At the beginning of WWII, he was taken by German soldiers and sent to Germany to work on a farm. After the war, he worked in the coal mines in Belgium. He worked his way to Canada in the early 1950’s.
In Canada, he worked on different farms, from sugar beets, tobacco, and apple orchards. “Little Mike” retired from orchard work in his late 1970’s. He would often be seen walking to Roy’s Coffee Shop or Giant Tiger and enjoy the company of everyone he met. “Little Mike’s” love of nature shined through his beautiful garden and his generous nature with plants & people alike. He brought great joy to all around him and will be greatly missed by his dear friends.
A graveside service will be held on Thursday, April 20th, 2023 at 3 pm at Sacred Heart Cemetery, Mount Brydges.
