Obituary of Emily Micheelsen

Micheelsen, Emily: From the loving arms of her only daughter, Linda, and son-in-law, Bernie Duewel, to the arms of her Lord and Saviour and the waiting embrace of her beloved late husband, Henri. On May 25, 2016, at 86 years of age, Emily passed at home in Lucan, Ontario after a dignified battle with cancer. Emily tragically lost her first love and Linda’s father, Martin Oravec, in 1963, but went on to build a life, career, and home together with Henri for 33 years until his passing in 1999. She is already greatly missed by Linda and Bernie, with whom she shared a home for the past twenty-eight years, as well as her infinitely giving, motherly love and support. Emily was also a second mother to her only grandson, Brandon, whom, thanks to her perpetual presence, never knew the care of a babysitter or the inside of a daycare. “Gramma” to not only Brandon, and his beloved, Kara, Emily touched the hearts of the many children who passed through Linda’s classrooms, in which Emily was a constant volunteer. Returning her lifelong love for all four-legged friends, feline companions, Fritz and Bismarck, were at her side every moment until the end. Emily is also lovingly remembered by sisters, Dorothy, Marilyn, Lita, and Vivian, brothers and sisters-in-law, Thor, Elaine, Halvard, Randi, Edna and Sue as well as her many nieces and nephews. Emily is reunited with brother, Emil, and sisters, Anna and Susan, who passed before her. The family would like to thank Dr. Jonathan Izawa, the late Dr. John Swift, Dr. Ferner’s nurse practitioner Nancy Rigutto, as well as Stella, Carlie, and their VON team for their dedicated care during Emily’s illness. Special thanks to Pam, Emily’s PSW and more importantly cherished new family friend. The family will receive visitors on Monday, May 30, at Elliott-Madill Funeral Home, 22424 Adelaide Rd, Mt. Brydges, from 7-9 pm and again on Tuesday, May 31, from 10:30-11 am at St. Ansgar Lutheran Church, 600 Lawson Rd, London, where a funeral service will follow at 11 am. Those wishing to make a contribution in Emily’s memory are asked to plant a tree in honour of Emily and Henri’s love of nature and gardening.
