He mad you angry, or you loved him:
Grant was one of my buddies and mentors in the car business so many years ago. Honest to a fault and a man John Wayne would have been jealous of. (Anybody who knew Grant knows what that means, including his love of red heads!) A man who never allowed the loss of one hand stop him from anything! Rest Grant and I just know you're giving them the what, what up there!

I met Grant in 1975 and never spent near enough time around him. We both had the racing virus with great fun at the Michigan track and at Daytona.
With our wives we went for dinner in Daytona and ended up sitting at a table next to Richard Letty and his wife.
I asked Grant is he wanted to meet Richard Perry and
You know what Grant said???? He said “bullshit that’s not Richard Petty” After we got Grant Richards autograph Grant was like a little kid. It feels like yesterday.
Grant kept in touch when I moved to Florida, he and I got drunk in Clearwater once while he was visiting his mother.
She was not impressed, she said we needed to grow up
I bought and sold a number of cars both with and from Grant
He did some great paint work for me also
I use to stand in front of his gas station smoking cigarettes and Grant said my smoking weren’t healthy as he pointed at the gas pumps. LOL
What a gentleman Grant was
Godspeed my friend

When I was a kid, teen, and young adult, Uncle Grant and my Aunt Linda (my Mom’s sister) were a vital part of my family circle. They helped us survive the many challenges of being a one parent family.
Uncle Grant would come out to rescue our mom (and us) by resurrecting the dead engine of her “wreck on wheels”. And he didn’t always use tools – sometimes he’d bring gasoline; and once, I remember him getting in the car, putting it in gear, and turning the ignition key – “Marg” he said, “You have to put it in park before it’ll start”.
While I had the same aptitude about cars as my mother; Grant still gave me my first real job - at his FINA Station. I cleaned the public washrooms and occasionally pumped gas (until he got tired of cleaning up my mess). As frustrated as Uncle Grant was, he sat beside me in his car while giving me a very memorable first driving lesson; and later helped me with my first vehicles.
Uncle Grant was a little scary – after all he was a big guy with a big voice. But I also remember He was quick to laugh, with a warm smile.
After he lost his hand, I watched him play his guitar again and build a new life. He turned his passion for cars into successful businesses. He was a good man who grew into an inspiration – a person I am proud to say, was my Uncle.

So sorry to hear of his passing. Grant and I had many good times over cars in the years gone by. Racing and putting them together. Will miss just knowing I will not be able see him again.
