My sincere condolences to Billy's family and friends. I had the pleasure of meeting Billy some time ago when I was at Western University. Billy was a sincere, full-of-life, happy, undaunted and bright young spirit who made a striking and positive impression on me and everyone in our office.

My first memory of Billy was when his mum and dad brought he and his sister Hannah to meet his mum's family in England. We were all so excited to meet the first grandchildren in the family. We met at their great grandmother Jessica's home. These two beautiful children were welcomed with open arms. I could not take my hands off little Billy. He was such a sweet child. He grew into a lovely young man and although quiet, he was always part of those fun cousins. Busy lives sometime separate families in different countries but the love will always be there with cherished memories.
I send my love to all the family as we grieve over the loss of Billy.
Aunt Claudia

Billy was a very special person, to me, to all who met him. He would see me in the metro, on the bus, and single me out to come and talk, about him, about me, about the world . His interests covered a vast range and I was always learning from him. A while ago I tutored him in French and had such pleasure reading his essays. Last year, he and another Our Harbour member rebuilt my deck and we spent many hours in discussion, in buying materials, in sharing the process and we'd sit down for lunch together and talk about a million things. This spring he helped me in my community garden and we had our picture in the local paper! I will treasure that photo for ever.
I saw him several times at the hospital (where I volunteer) while he was sick and we talked quietly as he was so tired and I was very very sad to see our dear friend so weak and sick. It broke my heart to see him there in a hospital bed, too weak to even lift his head.
I will miss him, as you all will, and my thoughts go out to you all in this sad time. Lesley

When Billy was a little boy, probably no more than 5 or 6 I was visiting the family home. I asked him what he was reading and he showed me a book about animals. He told me it was very interesting. I asked him why? He proceeded to give me a natural history lesson on symbiosis - how the zebra and the giraffe liked to be together because the zebra gave the giraffe the protection of numbers and the giraffe protection of elevated sight. He had an instinctive knowledge of nature.I have always admired Billy right to the end. Just lately he was so courteous and appreciative about the inheritance he received from his Aunt Becca. It was a great shock to hear of his untimely death. We are so sorry not to be able to join the family at his funeral.

Very sad to hear of the loss of my cousin Billy Jack, as we called him when we were young. We will all miss him . When I was young, I loved being able to tell my friends that I had this cool older cousin who was an Native Indian and tell them of his heritage. He was sometimes quiet but a very valuable member of our extended family. He was fun to play with and have around. I know the Douthright’s and community will miss him dearly. He will be joining his mum, aunt Anna, our Aunt Becca, & Grandad John in heaven and they will be so happy to have him. Im sorry I can’t make the funeral today.
