Obituary of Johanna Leonie Vriends

VRIENDS Johanna Leonie (Kustermans) Peacefully on Saturday, October 24th, 2015 surrounded by family at Elmwood Place in London Johanna (Jo) Vriends formerly of Komoka passed away in her 93rd year. Wife of the late Peter Vriends (1989). Mother of Adrian Vriends (Saskatoon), Bernadette and Michael Winslow (Dartmouth), Henry and Beth Vriends (Strathroy), Annette Vriends (Woodstock), Agnes Vriends (London), Joseph Vriends (Stratford). Dear Oma of Peter ( Trish ), Paul ( Lisa ) and Chris ( Heather ) Vriends, Melissa ( Wilber ) Robert and Theresa Winslow, Megan (1992), Bryce, Sophie and Madelynne Vriends and 13 great grandchildren. Survived by sisters in law Nell , Liza, Leonie and Jo Vriends in the Netherlands and many nieces and nephews of the Vriends and Kustermans families in both Canada and the Netherlands. Mom was the last surviving child of the late Janus and Anna Kustermans of Holland. Predeceased by her 4 sisters, 5 brothers and their spouses. Mom's lifelong passions were service to her church and community. She was a very active member of the CWL and the parish community at Sacred Heart Delaware. Mom trained as a nurse and midwife in the Netherlands and continued her nursing career here in Canada as a nurse’s aide at the local nursing home for 16 years. A very special thank you to her extended family, the staff and residents at Elmwood Place. Visitation will be held at the Elliott Madill Komoka Chapel (22568 Komoka Road) on Tuesday, October 27th from 2-4 pm & 7-9 pm. Prayer service 3pm. Funeral Mass to be celebrated on Wednesday from Sacred Heart Parish Delaware commencing at 10:00 a.m. Father Matthew Bedard officiating. Internment Sacred Heart Cemetery, Mt Brydges. Memorial Donations to a charity of one's choice would be appreciated as expressions of sympathy.
